The GAEA project was presented at one of the official parallel events at the 68th Session of the
UN CSW68
The 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), the UN’s largest annual gathering on gender equality and women’s empowerment, concluded after eleven days of deliberations from March 11 to March 22, 2024. The priority theme of this year's session was “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective”.
The Union of Hungarian Women Association (UHW), a partner in the GAEA project, with a special UN consultative status, held an official Parallel Event, titled “How to create profitable services for gender equality including social protection (e.g. social safety net), access to public services and sustainable infrastructure?” The parallel event took place on the 14th of March 2024 via ZOOM and aimed to present a wide range of experiences on the topic of social protection systems including innovation and technological change. Best practices and great examples from several EU and non-Eu countries were presented for accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.
In this context, Dr. Maria Symeonidou, EU Projects Coordinator at Heraklion Chamber of Commerce and Industry, introduced the project GAEA at the event.
Dr. Symeonidou elaborated on the objectives of project GAEA, which focus on addressing the training and support needs of women in the agricultural sector. Notable developments showcased during her presentation included the GAEA Training Need Mapping Report, providing a comprehensive analysis of target groups' characteristics, preferences, and skill gaps, as well as the GAEA Training Programme Structure, outlining four distinct curricula tailored to participants' needs. Additionally, Dr. Symeonidou highlighted the GAEA Training Material, encompassing resources for higher education (HE), vocational education and training (VET), and professionals, along with a short handbook for VET trainers focusing on how to better approach and help women.
Furthermore, Dr. Symeonidou announced upcoming deliverables of the GAEA project, including the GAEA Innovative Mobile Application, designed to assist young female agripreneurs in creating valid skills profiles based on ESCO skills categorization, and the GAEA Digital Platform, a comprehensive online resource offering access to knowledge, networking opportunities, webinars, workshops, and best practices in the agricultural field.
UHW’s president Mrs. Margit Batthyány-Schmidt highlighted that finding synergies between international activities such as the CSW and GAEA project is one of the key priorities in supporting women.
